Ceramic Center - a place for creative
expression in ceramics since 1998.

The Ceramic Center is a not-for-profit ceramic studio established in Baroda in 1998. It was among the first of its kind in India, offering support to artists growing their practice in the field of ceramics. It has since operated under its ethos to provide space, infrastructure and technical expertise to facilitate experimentation and the execution of any creative idea, with focus on creative expression over commercial gain.

In this studio, the lives and careers of many artists have intersected, through workshops, residencies and art camps. At the heart of the Center was Jyotsna Bhatt, who always had an integral role in the evolution of the studio and the growth of its community. The Ceramic Center continues to build upon its legacy by supporting upcoming generations of ceramic artists – expanding its diverse community of creative professionals, offering expertise and infrastructure, and creating an environment for ceramists to produce meaningful work that pushes boundaries.

Jyotsna Bhatt

Jyotsna Bhatt was a pillar of the Ceramic Center since its inception. Her spirit and legacy continues to be a guiding light for the Center and a source of inspiration for the many artists who have learned from and worked with her. In her memory, the Center launched in 2021 the ‘Remembering Jyotsna Bhatt’ ceramic camp series.
